Sirens (2012) – Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams collages films of civil defense sirens. The pictures of the automatons rotating against a blue sky reveal nothing about the reason for the alarm. Each siren goes through its own motions and has its individual sound. The video collage documents the array of models and at the same time creates the impression of a choreographed concert.

Tyler Adams’ sirens have important antecedents in the futuristic Intonarumori, whose siren-like machine sounds were first presented in concert in 1914 in Milan by the Italian painter and composer Luigi Russolo.
